The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in the early twenty-first century, was projected in such a way that became the subject of international discussions on the political and economic spheres. Much of this prominence was the due to economic issues and the rise of Hugo Chávez in 1998. His charismatic leadership of populist
base, and its political structure guided in the colonial model, was the aim of the analysis in this article. We used the concepts of nationalism and populism as lenses for reading and understanding the movement’s leader, Chávez, and the structure of its proposal to the government.
